In una sera d'estate, Suzanne si presenta inaspettatamente a casa della sorella Jeanne con i suoi due figli. Jeanne, sorpresa, nota subito che Suzanne sembra assente. La mattina dopo scopre una notizia scioccante: Suzanne è scomparsa e le ha lasciato i bambini senza che sia possibile avviare una procedura di ricerca. Lo sconcerto lascia il posto a una rabbiosa preoccupazione.
