On the southern edge of the Alps rises the striking Monte Generoso with its "Fiore di pietra" structure designed by world-famous architect Mario Botta. The cogwheel railroad, which has been in operation for over 130 years, takes you from Capolago on Lake Lugano over a 9 km route to the 1704-metre-high summit.
