After starting at the Buffalora Pass, secured steps take you up to the south ridge of the Nomnom. You then pass over alpine meadows from Aion to reach the Auriglia gorge, which is made safe with ladders. A long, steep descent through the mountain forest to Santa Maria in Calanca follows after the self-catering hut on the Alp di Fora.
