After the Swiss capital, Bern, come the gentle crests of the Längenberg mountain. The views of the Alps en route are magnificent, the sedate farms are solid and stocky, the ditches criss-crossing the landscape are deep and steep, and the Schwarzwasser bubbles and foams wildly. Yet Schwarzenburg, the destination for this stage, is calm and cosy.
