Niesenbahn, Ticket information

The Niesen cable car runs from April to November up to the Niesen and takes 30 minutes.
  • Valley station: Mülenen (693 m above sea level)
  • Mid station: Schwandegg (1669 m above sea level)
  • Mountain station: Niesen Kulm (2336 m above sea level)
The Niesen is the local mountain of Thun and Spiez. This popular excursion peak is ideal for paragliding. At the summit you will find, beside an observation terrace with a 360-degree panorama, also an adventure playground. It is nicknamed Niesen Döfli. In summer, however, the Niesen is primarily a hiking paradise.
You reach the viewing platform at 2,362 m above sea level via an asphalted path. The mountain inn features a restaurant with a generous terrace.

Swiss Activities Tip

Every year in June, the Niesenbahn's 11,674 stair steps are used for a stair climb. More than 200 runners take part in the Niesen stair climb. This staircase, at 3.4 km, is the longest in the world. The runners achieve an elevation gain of 1,669 m.
If the sun shines in early October, there is a special phenomenon to observe at the Niesen summit between about 14:30 and 16:00. The pyramid's shadow falls especially prominently on Lake Thun.
