Description

Monte Lema is situated between Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore. At 1,624 metres above sea level, the mountain towers above the Malcantone region and offers panoramic views across southern Ticino and beyond. Monte Lema is the starting point for numerous hikes and bike tours, but also offers culinary highlights and unique views of the stars.
Not far from the town of Lugano, in the heart of the Malcantone region, Monte Lema rises to the sky. Easily accessible by cable car, the panoramic view from the upper station is unrivalled. The view extends from the rolling, densely wooded hills of Malcantone with its chestnut forests and picturesque villages to the town of Lugano. If you walk 10 minutes from the upper station to the peak on a clear day, you will be rewarded with a view of the Bernese and Valais Alps.

The restaurant is accessible via a barrier-free path. A spacious terrace and two cosy dining rooms in the restaurant invite you to linger. Typical Ticino dishes are served, ranging from polenta to the famous torta di pane (bread cake). There are also 22 simple beds available in the guest house. A night on the summit is unforgettable.

It is just a short walk from the restaurant to the observatory. During a guided tour, guests can immerse themselves in the vastness of the universe. The stars suddenly seem so much closer. Numerous events are held on Monte Lema during the summer too. For example, a moonlit hike or yoga with a view.

Monte Lema is also the starting point for numerous hikes. Around 80 kilometres of hiking trails are waiting to be discovered. Leisurely circular hikes are ideal for hours of enjoyment. If you are looking for a greater challenge, you can undertake the famous ridge hike to Monte Tamaro. Impressive views are guaranteed. Bikers can expend their excess energy on a wide variety of trails.
Getting there: Take the train from Bellinzona or Lugano to Lamone-Cadempino, bus directly to Miglieglia, cable car to Monte Lema.
