Lucerne is one of the major stops on any trip to Switzerland. In addition to the unmistakable cityscape with the lake, Chapel Bridge and historic old town, Lucerne offers many sights and is the perfect hub for excursions to the region around Lake Lucerne.
Welcome to Lucerne
Lucerne is located in the heart of Switzerland on
Lake Lucerne at the gateway to central Switzerland. The capital of the canton of the same name, it is one of the most attractive destinations in Europe with its many sights.
Discover Lucerne
Lucerne’s pier is the best spot for a photo ever. There is a fantastic view of the city, lake and mountains from the
Musegg Wall with its nine towers. Between the two iconic wooden bridges over the Reuss is the
Jesuit Church with its onion domes. The path through the picturesque old town with its squares and fountains leads you to another popular sight with photographers, the “
Lion of Lucerne”.
Chapel Bridge and Old Town
The
Chapel Bridge with its cycle of paintings is the undisputed landmark of Lucerne. It runs from the
New Town past the water tower to the
Town Hall Quay. Why not stop at a café on the Reuss River before strolling through the beautiful Old Town, enjoying historic places such as the wine market or the Kornmarkt with the
town hall. Notable features include the painted façades and the many shops. The compactness of the old town makes it perfect for a shopping tour.
