Geneva is international. The European headquarters of the UN or the ICRC are located here. The city on Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) has a picturesque old town with many sights and beautiful parks. The fantastic mountain panorama around Geneva will amaze you.

This is Geneva

Geneva is located in the southwest of Switzerland, in the French-speaking part of the country. With its location on Lake Geneva and the many sights, the city is a popular holiday destination. It is also home to the ICRC, CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, and the European headquarters of the UN.

Discover Geneva

Start your discovery tour in the old town. Of course, a detour to the lake with a view of the Jet d’Eau is not to be missed. The sculpture in front of the UN building, the Broken Chair, is also a popular sightseeing destination. The Palais des Nations is home to the European headquarters of the United Nations. A few of its spaces are open to the public. Fancy a break in the countryside? The Parc des Bastions is a wonderful park in the heart of Geneva.

Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) and Jet d’Eau

Admire the Jet d’Eau from the shores of Lake Geneva. The spectacular water fountain shoots 140 metres into the sky and is the landmark of Geneva. If you feel like going for a swim, the Bains des Pâquis are a good choice. Enjoy the wonderful views of the surrounding mountains on a boat tour.

Old town of Geneva

The largest historic old town in Switzerland is characterised by the Cathedral of St. Peter (Cathédrale Saint Pierre). Enjoy a fantastic view over the city from the church tower. Walk through historic neighborhoods with beautiful alleys and visit the oldest house in the city, the Maison Tavel. And last but not least, visit many of the cafés and boutiques in the old town.

Around Geneva

Not far from Geneva, the town of Carouge is reminiscent you of an Italian village. Carouge is a popular destination with numerous boutiques, cafés, markets, and culture, especially in the evening and on weekends. From Mont Salève, you have a wonderful view over the canton of Geneva. Mont Salève is already on French soil but considered Geneva’s local mountain. Another highlight around Geneva: a ride along Lake Geneva through the terraced vineyards of Lavaux.
