Escholzmatt-Marbach
Rarely is a holiday destination so multifaceted: Sun-drenched vantage points, adventurous bike trails, fairytale hiking trails and attractive culinary offers make winter and summer in the south of Entlebuch an unforgettable experience.
The two municipalities of Escholzmatt and Marbach merged into one municipality in 2013 and offer a wide variety for their visitors. The Schybi village of Escholzmatt is a community steeped in history and is well on its way to becoming a herb mecca. Not far from the impressive herb garden next to the imposing church, a large wild plant and herb market takes place every year in May. The Schrattendorf Marbach, on the other hand, is a holiday village and a hidden gem. Old crafts are reinterpreted here, such as the production of cheese or water buffalo mozzarella in the innovative Marbach mountain cheese dairy or the processing of moon wood, which combines old and modern carpentry. A highlight that should not be missed is the Marbachegg at 1500 m above sea level. M. – the sun terrace with an enchanting panorama.
Summer
Families discover many interactive games to discover, marvel at and puzzle on the two-hour adventure trail, and those seeking peace and quiet will find silence and spirituality in the mystically dreamy Lourdes Grotto. The Marbach mountain cheese dairy is a true pioneer in cheese and dairy products, it even produced the first buffalo mozzarella in Switzerland. In the interactive cheese experience, visitors can immerse themselves in the processing of the milk. On the FoodTrail, you can follow in the footsteps of the water buffalo and enjoy various regional products and delicacies. During the summer months, there are also varied excursions and courses on the subject of herbs, such as herb afternoons with the family, wild herb cuisine or making your own ointments. It gets adventurous on the Marbachegg: Here you meet to eat, hike, bike, paraglide or simply relax during a picnic in the beautiful nature!
Winter
Skiing on the Marbachegg is particularly popular for families with children. At the children's ski lift right next to the valley station of the gondola lift, the little ones start their first attempts on skis or snowboard with the support of Snowli and his friends. And once the kids are reasonably confident on the boards, it's off to the slopes on the Marbachegg. On the two lifts and a total of 10km of varied but clear runs in the Marbach-Marbachegg ski area, the whole family meets again and again. And yet each family member will find an individual route according to their taste and ability.
Glittering snowy landscapes, a magnificent panorama and a decelerating tranquillity make up the winter hiking trails and snowshoe trails on the Marbachegg. Different levels of difficulty and lengths are signposted between Marbach and Marbachegg. Why not take a "fondue to go" with you on your winter hike? In the prepared backpack, equipped with a caquelon, gas burner, white wine, bread and, of course, a fabulous cheese fondue mixture from the Marbach mountain dairy, you can go to your individual favourite place. Or how about a trip to the sunny cross-country ski trails, embedded in the beautiful mountain scenery? In the Escholzmatt–Marbach–Bumbach cross-country ski trail network, 50 kilometres of cross-country skiing fun await you, classic and skating groomed. The Marbach village circular trail is illuminated daily between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
