Brig

Discover Brig in sunny Valais. Stroll through the car-free old town, marvel at the Stockalper Castle and let yourself be pampered in the Brigerbad thermal baths. As a transport hub, Brig is ideal when it comes to excursions to the Aletsch region, the Matterhorn or the Saas Valley.

This is Brig

Brig can be found in the south of Switzerland between the Bernese and Valais Alps, not far from the Aletsch Glacier. The city on the River Rhône is a popular destination thanks to the Stockalper Castle, the Simplon Pass and its thermal baths.

Discover Brig

Brig is an important junction between the Lötschberg, Furka and Simplon passes. Discover the historically significant city on the “Little Simplon Express” or on foot: Start off by strolling through the alleyways of the old town with their patrician houses – and past the beautiful Sebastian Chapel towards Stockalper Castle, the landmark of Brig. Then cross the bridge over the Rhône to the oldest Valais village of Naters, where you’ll find the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch - UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Go on to relax in Brigerbad, Switzerland’s largest open-air thermal baths.

Stockalper Castle

Visit the 17th-century baroque Stockalper Castle with its onion domes and Renaissance-style courtyard, which testifies to the wealth of Valais businessman Kaspar Stockalper, also known as the “King of the Simplon”. Stroll through the gardens, allow yourself to be guided through the eventful history of Brig in the museum or book a tour of the castle.

Simplon Pass

The Simplon Pass leads from Brig in Valais to Domodossola in Italy, and is considered one of the most beautiful Alpine crossings. From the Rhône Valley, take the PostBus through the Ganter Valley to the top of the pass, which is watched over by a huge golden eagle. On the southern side, the old mountain pass road leads past the village of Simplon and through the spectacular Gondo Gorge. All of this can also be experienced on foot on the “ViaStockalper” along the old trade routes. Or if you like things faster, you can travel by train through the Simplon Tunnel to northern Italy – with practical car transport by rail.

Around Brig

You can reach Zermatt and see the Matterhorn right in front of you in around an hour. In winter, the ski areas of Saas-Fee entice visitors with the Allalin. A further highlight is the Aletsch Glacier, along with the Aletsch Forest and the Aletsch Arena.
