For more than 500 years, the soldiers of the Swiss Guard have protected the Pope and provided security in the Vatican.

No other Swiss community has contributed more men over the centuries than Naters, close to Brig. Above the village, a former military fortress deep in the mountain now houses the Museum of the Swiss Guard, which tells the story of the legendary Swiss mercenaries with numerous personal artefacts and engaging testimonies.
