Description

Geneva is home to the European seat of the United Nations as well as the international headquarters of the Red Cross. As a result, the city is often described as the "peace capital".
More than 200 international organisations are based in Geneva. The city is also home to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, the only one of its kind. Inaugurated in 1988 opposite the Palais des Nations and fully renovated in 2013, the museum traces the story of the humanitarian movement founded by Geneva citizen Henry Dunant. At the foot of the monumental sculpture “Broken Chair”, located on the Place des Nations, visitors have a palpable sense of the spirit of peace that pervades the city.
