Not far from the medieval town of Romainmôtier, southwest of Yverdon-les-Bains, the Nozon River flows into a unique gorge known as Gorges de Nozon in French. The steep and sometimes slippery ascent leads to a breathtaking natural wonder: Cascade du Dard waterfall. Depending on the water level, the water may slip quietly or rush loudly over the 20 metre high edge of the cliff which is the beginning of the gorge. This enchanting, untouched spot is the perfect place to linger. And with a little luck, you may even see a rare kingfisher.

If you'd like to go farther in, the hike will take you along both the left and the right banks of the Nozon, past the rapids and the small streams that flow over the moss-covered stones. The almost 3-hour hike takes you past the popular Tine de Conflens waterfall and ends in the village of La Sarraz, which is known for its castle perched atop a promontory.

Getting there: By public transport or car to Croy-Romainmôntier. From there you can walk to the gorge.
