Description

The rear Glarus valley is a place awash with water: mighty torrents cascade from the mountains all around. Not far from the former «Bergli» restaurant on the road to the Klausen Pass, you can soon hear the thundering sound, and suddenly the rushing waterfall is in front of you.
The Fätschbach brook has impressively carved its way into the limestone in recent times, and subsequently gushes down in three waterfalls from Urnerboden (1,200 meters) to Linth valley (720 meters). As early as 1897, the middle waterfall, «Berglistüber», was described as one of Switzerland’s most beautiful waterfalls. Visitors who venture behind the «water curtain» comfortably reach the outcrop of the thrust fault. The rock face consists of about 150-million year-old Wintner limestone from the so-called Griesstock Nappe.
For security reasons, only the front and the side of the mountain cunning is allowed to be admired, the most beautiful view from behind remains denied to the viewer: too dangerous.
