Description

Just a 15-minute walk from Ascona rises the 321 metre tall "Hill of Truth". The panoramic view of the village and the Lago Maggiore is fantastic – just like the story of the eccentrics from around the world who established an early hippy colony here in 1900. This spirit can still be seen today in the hotel, in the museum – and while strolling through the park.
At the beginning of the 20th century, an open spirit prevailed on the Monescia, as Monte Verità above Ascona was originally called: a group of eccentrics from around the world had settled down here in order to devote themselves to free love, vegetarianism, nudism and psychoanalysis. After twenty years, the experiment failed because the requirements of those involved were too different.

Almost thirty years later, the rich German Baron Eduard von der Heydt has a Bauhaus hotel built on the hill, which was renovated and extended in 1992. Today, Monte Verità presents itself as an attractive conference centre and as a health resort with a wonderful park, open to visitors all year round, with a broad perspective, illustrious past, a good restaurant and an interesting museum.
