Description

The piste from the Schilthorn to Lauterbrunnen is almost 15 km long, making it one of the longest in Switzerland. At the end of January each year, a hellish racing spectacle is enacted here. The descent is open to experienced skiers all winter.
Back in 1928 a group of daredevil Brits created the world’s craziest ski race, which they fittingly called the "Inferno". Even today, the race is as devilishly challenging as ever. Start at the Kleine Schilthorn at 2,900 m.a.s.l. and end up at 800 m.a.s.l. It takes experienced skiers about 40 minutes to complete as there are several flat sections and even some slight inclines. The trickiest passage is the gun barrel, a treacherously narrow gully.
