The tour starts at the Oberalp Pass, which can only be accessed by train during the winter, followed by a brief descent to Alp Milez. The ascent to Tomasee lake begins here; along the way, you will cross the Rhine, just 300 metres from its source. Covered in snow and ice, it is no obstacle. The final section lies at the far end of the lake and leads right up to the peak – Piz Badus. The fantastic panorama stretches as far as the Jungfrau in the Bernese Oberland or the Dufourspitze, which stands 4,634 metres high and is Switzerland’s highest peak. Up here, almost 3,000 metres above sea level, it is clear that this route is worth the effort: as is so often the case, the best has evidently been saved for last in the form of the Maighelshütte and subsequent descent to Tschamut.
