Have you ever heard of the Swiss Freiamt located in the Aargau Reuss and Bünz valley? In between the Lindenberg hills and rivers, there is embedded a little known but very charming landscape which waits to be discovered by foot or bike.

You may hike on the specially laid out trail "Freiämterweg" through the region's culture and history. You may meet the myths, for instance the Erdmannlistein that marks the entrance to an enchanted cave, or the Anglo-Saxon Legend. On quiet autumn nights or through winter's sea of mist, the old sagas and legends seem to become alive. Or you may experience history in the medieval town of Bremgarten, in Muri with its great 11th century Benedictine monastery, and Wohlen, the former centre of the Swiss thatching industry.

Every place offers something unique, and the region's beauty unfolds itself through its peace far off the typical tourism. Time has been honoured in this region framed by the cities of Zurich, Zug, and Luzern. You may sleep in a stack of hay, or buy the region's products on a farm, while you are enjoying the wonderful view of the Alps. Let yourself be taken into the Freiamt; it is no artificial tourist area but a landscape that you can discover from scratch. Experience nature in the Reuss valley and at the Flachsee, in the Bünz valley and in the Murimoos.
