Zernez

Zernez is the gateway to the Swiss National Park. This is where your nature adventure in the largest wilderness in Switzerland begins. The town is located in the Engadine, surrounded by mountains, forests and rivers – ideal for hiking, wildlife watching and excursions in the region.

This is Zernez

Zernez is located in the eastern part of Switzerland in the canton of Graubünden. The town in the Lower Engadine is the starting point for excursions to the Swiss National Park and offers a wide range of opportunities for nature and outdoor activities.

Discover Zernez

At the visitor centre, learn all about the flora and fauna of the area. After that, it says: Lace up your hiking boots. Over 100 kilometres of trails lead you through the untouched nature of the national park. A walk through the village will show you Engadine architecture with sgraffito and the baroque church of San Maurizius. Families are drawn to the nature adventure trail or to the adventure pool with indoor and outdoor pools.

Swiss National Park

Since 1914, nature has been left to its own devices here. The oldest national park in the Alps is home to wildlife, forests, glaciers and untouched mountain landscapes. Observe marmots, deer or ibex – but only from the path, because in the park the following applies: Do not pick, do not camp, do not stray from the path. In this way, the experience of nature remains genuine and protected.

Engadine village life

Zernez is typical Engadine: Narrowly winding streets, houses with sgraffito and a strong Rhaeto-Romanic culture characterise the townscape. In summer it is the starting point for hikes, in winter it is quiet and snowy – ideal for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Zernez also has a lot to offer culturally with concerts and events around nature.

Around Zernez

Just a few kilometres away you will find other places worth seeing such as Guarda, which is known as the Schellen-Ursli village or Scuol with the famous thermal baths. The Ofen Pass connects Zernez with the Münstertal – perfect for a panoramic ride.

Experience Zernez at a reasonable price

With the guest card of the Engadin Scuol Zernez holiday region, you can travel free of charge on public transport in the region and get discounts on many leisure activities. Admission to the National Park's visitor centre is also discounted. Highly recommended are the free guided tours and guided hikes with national park rangers in summer.
