The lake above Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland nestled at nearly 1,600 meters above sea level in a valley basin. Because it is surrounded on three sides by high mountains, it is one of the coldest sites and a popular destination on the winter map of Switzerland.

From January 1st until the end of March, ice fishing is very popular. The lake is usually easily accessible.
