Description

Children from all over the world play, mums and dads chat away to one another and students read here at the City Park Biel. The large park with playground and lawned areas provides a peaceful spot for people to gather in the heart of the city.
The bandstand was restored, and the annexes to the former gatehouse rebuilt, as part of a comprehensive facelift of the City Park Biel.

The gatehouse was built in 1878 for the former cemetery as a gardener’s lodge with an open piazza and “morgue”.

The bandstand was built by architect Walter Sommer in 1936. The elegant concrete rotunda has undergone extensive concrete restoration. The severely damaged glass brick wall clad in wooden composite was cleared and rebuilt. The elegant concrete construction has thus once again come into its own.
