The Aabach is the river that flows through the Seetal valley. Around 28 mills were built along the banks of the river over the last 250 years, which operated using water power.
This use of water as a source of energy gave rise to the textile industry in the area between Wildegg, Lenzburg and Lake Hallwil. The textile industry and the use of water as a source of energy were also grounds for the establishment of other companies, such as the cannery in Seon, the oxygen factory in Lenzburg and the Swiss linen industry in Niederlenz.
Those interested in the history surrounding the industrial architecture along the Aabach can follow an industrial trail from Hallwyl Castle to Wildegg railway station, which takes about six hours. Most of the trail takes you along the Aabach through a glorious natural landscape. The 17.7km route features information panels with interesting facts about the history of industry in the area. If you don’t want to walk the 17.7km trail in one go, you can of course do it in stages.
