ECAL, Lausanne's University of Art and Design, is one of the world's most prestigious art educational institutions.

Its success is due not least to its director Pierre Keller. In 2007 it moved to the former IRIL hosiery and pantyhose factory in Renens. The renovation work under the guidance of renowned architect Jean Tschumi has paid particular attention to the preservation of the original building’s character. The interior consists of large rooms, while the main façade is decorated by a huge fishnet made of metal.
