At almost 3km in length, Biel’s Taubenloch Gorge is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the region. The romantic and pleasantly fresh surroundings make crossing the walkways and walking past caves and overhanging rocks a real pleasure. At the deepest point of the gorge, you’ll find the Suze river, which has its source in St Immertal and flows into Lake Biel.

The approximately 35-minute walk from Biel to Frinvillier gives you an insight into 150 million years of geological history. The geological structure shows that millions of years ago fish and other creatures frolicked in the Jurassic Sea in this very spot. When you arrive in Frinvillier, you can enjoy a well-earned break in the Des Gorges restaurant.

It’s no surprise that the Swiss Alpine Club inaugurated the first trail through the gorge as a touristic offering in 1889.
