This landscape park, designed along Romantic lines, consists of a combination of strictly laid-out avenues and Mediterranean flair. The park is picturesquely situated above the old town and is dominated by an avenue of lime trees that leads to a pulpit with beautiful views over the pristine landscape of the Rhine.

The Fäsenstaubpromenade was built in 1803. Johann Michael Zeyher, court gardener for the Margrave of Baden, was tasked with its design. He based this on the style of an English landscape garden. The Promenade was transformed around 1895 and expanded into what was formerly a quarry.

This newer part of the park is known for its Mediterranean plants. The French Monument can be found at the back of the park. It commemorates the many volunteers who looked after around 300,000 French citizens in Schaffhausen during the First World War.

By the way, the name “Fäsenstaub” comes from the word “Vesenstaub” (spelt dust). Grain was ground in the mills nearby in the 19th century. The chaff or spelt was blown by the wind in the direction of the park.
