Description

Originally a private landscape garden, the City Park is today the largest contiguous green space in the St. Gallen inner city area. With its lawned areas under beautiful old trees, it is the epitome of a peaceful oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. It is surrounded by Theater St. Gallen, the Museum of Art, and the Historical and Folklore Museum.
It was previously the garden for house number 25 on Rorschacher Strasse. In 1880, the park underwent a major transformation when the museum was built. On the east side of the museum, the botanical garden was created with its austere basic forms, and this was later moved to the east side of the city.
The aviary association constructed an octagonal enclosure in the middle of the park. Currently, the city park serves as an attractive green space for the adjoining Theater St. Gallen.
