Framework of Borders

  • Image 1

Description

The "Gerüst der Grenzen" (framework of borders) along with the letters CHURCHURCHUR (at the subway) and the Three Fountains (on the station square) form part of Christoph Rütimann’s art in a public space project at Chur Station.
Above the escalator that connects the station square with the subway there are two large plexiglass outlines of the borders of Switzerland (in red) and those of the canton of Graubünden (in blue) superimposed on one another. This layering of the borders creates a special border effect. The interplay of the outlines emphasises the chance nature of their positioning in a historical context and their contemporary rather island-like reality.

This art in a public space was created by Christoph Rütimann. What the artist is saying here is that when you come to Chur and Graubünden you leave Switzerland behind, and when you leave Chur you are returning to Switzerland.
