Accessible fortifications in the town of Fribourg

Description

The fortifications of Fribourg were built to protect the town and are today open to the public.
The fortifications of the town of Fribourg were built in the Middle Ages between the 13th and 15th centuries. They consist of gates and towers, some of which are linked together by ramparts. In the past, this roughly 2km long system of walls protected the town. Large sections have been preserved to this day, which makes them the most significant piece of medieval military architecture in Switzerland.

During the summer season, this medieval heritage is open for independent visits or guided tours.
