Beautiful timber-framed buildings, species-rich forests, quaint field names: This approximately five-and-a-half-hour round trip is a chance for cyclists to discover the Schaffhausen Regional Nature Park in a sporty way. The tour starts in Schaffhausen and then goes on to Kesslerloch. The Kesslerloch cave is one of the most important sites of the late Ice Age in Europe and is definitely worth a stop-off.

From there, it’s along the Biber river all the way to Altdorf, which has the northernmost vineyard in Switzerland. In Reiatstübli, the eponymous restaurant is the ideal spot for a break with glorious views of the volcanic castle landscape of Hegau. The next symbolic stop is historical border stone 593, the north point of Switzerland. In the past, people banished or condemned by the Schaffhausen authorities were deported to Germany past border stone 593, or “Black Stone” as it is called in the common jargon.

In Hagen, the climb up the Hagen tower is an absolute must: At 912m, it is the highest point in the canton of Schaffhausen and offers stunning views across the land. From Hemmental, the route then finally returns to Schaffhausen.
