Zurich's wine country
Outside Winterthur, about 40 minutes away from Zurich, is where the canton's “green lung” begins. Bucolic charm and elongated vineyards stretch all the way to Germany and the western arm of Lake Constance.
Zurich's wine country is a perfect place to explore on foot or by bike. The undulating landscape with various viewpoints constantly offers new perspectives, while a hike through the elongated vineyards provides an incentive to sample the local wine in beautifully maintained inns and gardens. Walking on the Belvedere trail by Laufen Castle at the Rhine Falls to reach the viewing platform by the raging waters is an impressive experience.
