Mont Pèlerin
Mont Pèlerin, Vevey’s local mountain, allows you to see the beauty of Lake Geneva, the western Swiss Alps and the Jura at a glance. You will reach the summit by funicular, passing by the vineyards of Lavaux along the way. The best vantage point is the “Plein Ciel” tower.
This is Mont Pèlerin
Mont Pèlerin is situated in the southwest of Switzerland, in the French-speaking part of the country. Thanks to its location above
Lake Geneva, as well as how easy it is to reach from
Vevey, the mountain is a popular destination for excursions.
Discover Mont Pèlerin
In eleven minutes, the funicular will take you up to Vevey’s local mountain. The ride will take you through the
vineyards of Lavaux, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At the top of Mont Pèlerin, the panorama will amaze you. Enjoy a stroll through nature with a magnificent view of
Lake Geneva and the Alps. On the way back, you can stop off at the winegrowing villages of Corseaux or Chardonne.
The “Plein Ciel” observation tower
Visible from afar is the
telecom tower on Mont Pèlerin with the red and white antenna mast. The one-hour hike there is well worthwhile: The tower is the only one in Switzerland to have a viewing platform with a lift, known as “Plein Ciel”. The panoramic views from Lake Geneva to the
Vaud Alps and the
Jura are quite spectacular.
Leisure activities on Mont Pèlerin
The leisure activities on Vevey’s local mountain are many and varied. Popular with bike fans is the
Tour du Mont Pèlerin, which starts in the vineyard and circles the entire mountain through varied landscapes. Alternatively, you can hike up the mountain from the hilly hinterland. Enjoy the moment of surprise when Lake Geneva suddenly spreads out in front of you. In the colder season, the summit often lies above the sea of fog and invites you to take part in
snowshoe tours and winter hikes.
Around Mont Pèlerin
Treat yourself to a tour of the
vineyard terraces of Lavaux or discover
Vevey with its waterfront and
old town. The
Chaplin’s World and
Alimentarium museums are well worth a visit. Not far from Mont Pèlerin is
Montreux, the little town known for its famous jazz festival. From here, it is worth taking a detour to one of Switzerland’s top excursion destinations,
Chillon Castle.
