One of the world’s best ski racers hailed from Glarus – Vreni Schneider dominated the ski racing scene in the 1980s and 1990s. A varied downhill run in her home village of Elm was even named in honour of this queen of the piste.

Vreni Schneider, with three World Cup and three Olympic gold medals as well as 55 World Cup victories, is regarded as the most successful ski racer of all time. She took her first turns in Elm, on what is now known as the Vreni Schneider Piste. It runs from the Schabell chairlift top station to the valley station. This intermediate piste is wide and is well suited for carving and snowboarding. The upper section crosses scenic meadowlands while lower down it takes you through wooded terrain.
