  • Image 1

Description

This statue by Hermann Hubacher is dedicated to the German composer, pianist, and conductor Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) and is a symbol of music and of listening to music. Brahms lived and worked during the summer months in Thun between 1886 and 1888.
The house in which Brahms lived during that time was demolished in the early 1930s and a small park established with a monument by Hermann Hubacher. As a monument to Brahms, Hubacher created a symbol of music and of listening to music: The position of the arm of the free-standing naked woman with her eyes closed shows that she is listening attentively. Besides his engagement with the portrait bust, Hubacher’s main theme focused on the free-standing female nude.
