Lake Retaud: a Little Paradise Overlooking the Les Diablerets Glacier

A little paradise in the Vaud Alps: tucked away in a basin on the south-facing slope of La Palette, the crystal clear waters of Lake Retaud reflect blue sky and dark fir trees.
This natural idyll is near the Col du Pillon and is a favourite excursion destination in the area. Those wishing for a gentle stroll will get there in a 30 minute walk from the top of the pass, while hikers can make use of the longer path from Les Diablerets, crossing the magnificent countryside. Hikers who climb down to the lake from the mountain station of the Les Diablerets - Isenau cable car will encounter the Scex Rouge, Nägelihorn and the Oldenhorn peaks across the valley, as well as the Diablerets Glacier.

How to get to the Les Diablerets Station:
By car: take the A9 motorway in the direction of Great St. Bernard, exit at Aigle and follow the Aigle - Les Diablerets - Col du Pillon road (20 km).
By train: take the Paris - Lausanne TGV, then take an Intercity train to Aigle, or take the Lyria Paris - Lausanne - Aigle TGV. In Switzerland, there are direct trains to Aigle (Simplon and Geneva - Brig lines). Then take the ASD mountain train (Aigle - Sépey - Diablerets). The Lausanne - Aigle stage of the journey takes 30 minutes and the Aigle - Les Diablerets stage of the journey takes 50 minutes.
