The deep blue water of Lake Walen and the steeply rising Churfirsten: An unbeatable combination. To be experienced on a boat trip to Quinten and to the Seerenbach Falls. The leisure activities on offer range from water sports to hiking and biking to winter sports in Flumserberg.
This is Lake Walen
Lake Walen lies in Eastern Switzerland on the route from
Zurich to
Chur. At 150 meters deep and set at the foot of the
Churfirsten, the lake is a popular excursion destination thanks to its mild climate and abundance of outdoor activities.
Discover Lake Walen
Experience Lake Walen from the
boat: its crystal-clear water and fjord-like landscape with the impressive Churfirsten will captivate you. With a day ticket, you can hop on and off wherever you like — for instance, in Betlis to admire the mighty
Seerenbach Falls, or across the lake in Murg, where sweet chestnut trees grow that are otherwise only found in Ticino. For hiking, biking, and winter sports,
Flumserberg and
Amden above Lake Walen are especially popular.
Water sports on Lake Walen
Lake Walen is perfect for every kind of water sport. Around the lake you’ll find freely accessible swimming areas. A favorite is the lido in Walenstadt with its sunbathing lawn, diving platform, and kiosk. In Unterterzen and Murg you can rent stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, or motorboats. The lake is also renowned for windsurfing in föhn winds and spectacular diving.
Quinten on Lake Walen
The car-free village of Quinten is easily reached by
boat. Thanks to its almost Mediterranean climate, berries, figs, kiwis, and vines grow here. Discover the beautiful village center, the Chapel of St. Bernhard, and the historic “Geissenstall” settlement. Visit the farm shops, the Quintner wine cellar, or enjoy the panorama of Lake Walen in one of the excursion restaurants. Wonderful views also await you on the
Quinten lakeside path from Walenstadt.
Around Lake Walen
Not far from Lake Walen lies the
Bündner Herrschaft, one of Switzerland’s best-known wine regions. Visit Maienfeld,
Heidi’s homeland, or relax at the
Tamina Therme in
Bad Ragaz. In about an hour, you can also reach the rose town of
Rapperswil-Jona on Lake Zurich or
St. Gallen with its
UNESCO Abbey District.
