Cathedral of the Assumption

Description

The cathedral is a fitting symbol of the episcopal city of Chur. Somewhat plain from the outside, it impresses with its magnificent interior.
The Bishop's Palace in Chur is much like a small town set high above the city because of the fortifications surrounding the courtyard. The triple-naved Cathedral of the Assumption is located in the centre of the courtyard. It may be described as the most significant building in the city.

The 800 year old cathedral was reopened in October 2007 after many years of restoration. A pleasant walk through the pedestrianised Old Town takes you along twisting alleyways to the Bishop's Palace. For an interesting learning experience about the cathedral, you may either go on a guided city tour or on a tour of the cathedral itself.
