Alpine flower trail around the Klewenstock

Description

The southern shore of Lake Lucerne in Nidwalden canton is served by several cable railways all year. The mountain stations, at heights of 1000 meters above the lake, afford superb views.
Just 3 km long, the route around the Klewenstock (Alpine flower trail) is ideal for leisure walkers, families with prams and Alpine flower aficionados. Depending on the season, up to 120 different Alpine flowers (some of them very rare) are indicated by signs on a 700-meter stretch. Most of them grow here naturally.

The signs are changed regularly to match the locations of the plants. Alois Käslin (of Bärglers Weysl), a local, is responsible for maintenance.

The circular walk starts by Klewenalp mountain station (cable car from Beckenried) and passes the chapel to reach the cosy Alpstubli mountain restaurant and Rötenport; then it veers left, rising gently southwards around the Klewenstock.
