St.Gallen – city winter sports

  • Image 1

Description

With its four cross-country skiing trails, three ski lifts, one artificial and one natural ice rink, St.Gallen is justified in calling itself an urban winter sports resort. Thanks to its location at an altitude of 700m, the winter sports facilities are in operation for several weeks practically every winter.
The Beckenhalde, Schlössli and Vögelinsegg ski lifts are open every day when snow conditions are good. In addition to operating during the day the lifts also offer night skiing and ski races.

The four cross-country skiing trails on the outskirts of the city of St.Gallen (Unterer Brand, Notkersegg, Peter and Paul and Kinderfestplatz) provide great opportunities for exercising and training in natural surroundings. When snow conditions and the weather are good, the trails are regularly groomed for classic and skating style cross-country skiing.

The natural ice rink on the Buebenweiher, the middle one of the famous Three Ponds, is a very special experience. When the ice is thick enough, the pond becomes a paradise for skaters of all ages.

Those who prefer skating on artificial ice, will be delighted with the rink at the Lerchenfeld Ice Sports Centre. The ice rink there is open from September to April.
