Description

The name is already promising: “Pichoux” means 1,000 springs.
This gorge cut by the Sorne River in the canton of Jura does have an impressive number of springs that shoot out geysers of water from the limestone cliffs on rainy days. Pichoux Gorge lies on the road between Bellelay and Undervelier and draws you in with its mystical, wild beauty. In the imposing gorge the Sorne murmurs along the almost perfectly vertical walls of the gorge that hems it in.
Lake Vert at the back of the gorge is also worth a visit. As its name suggests, the surface sparkles in varying shades of green. It is a wonderful spot for a picnic set against a lush natural backdrop. It is so special in fact that it is included in the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Monuments of National Importance.
And if the gorge looks familiar, that is because it is the filming location of the Swiss TV series, “Wilder”.
Getting there: By public transport or car to Sornetan, Le Pichoux. Free parking is available.
