- Le vicende trattate sono ambientate nella California di fine '800 e più precisamente nella San Joaquin Valley e narra delle avventure quotidiane della famiglia Barkley, proprietari di un ranch. La famiglia è guidata da Victoria Barkley che, dopo essere rimasta vedova, oltre alla gestione del ranch deve prendersi cura dei suoi 5 figli.
