Description

Haunting moorland, mysterious caves and a sea of alpine flowers: the landscape around the Hohgant soon charms its visitors. Especially on Lombachalp, which together with Sörenberg makes up one of Switzerland’s largest and most impressive stretches of moorland.
In winter an array of cross-country ski trails and snowshoe paths lead over the high snowy plateau; from spring to autumn, the landscape is characterised by bubbling brooks, atmospheric moors and sculpted limestone pavements, scattered with pines and spruce. The neighbouring Thunersee-Hohgant Nature Park, which extends for 350 square kilometres and up to 2,200m above sea level, incorporates a colourful mosaic of habitats, shared by ibex, golden eagles and lynx – as well as humans.
