Ticino’s Pioratal is famous for its biodiversity and many lakes. Tourists and scientists have been visiting and exploring the valley for more than 200 years and deriving benefits from this unique situation.
Visitors can discover for themselves the hidden and unknown world of microorganisms on the microbiological nature trail in the beautiful surroundings of the Pioratal.
The circular trail is approximately 4km long and can be walked from any direction and in any sequence. Signs along the path indicate observation areas where you can render the microorganisms and their effects on the environment visible. Each post provides a reference to the relevant chapter to look up in the accompanying brochure. The central information centre is located in the Alpine Biology Center, which has a research laboratory and extensive documentation.
