The Mülenen Gorge is a narrow ravine south of the old town of St.Gallen. At the lower end of the valley - so the story goes – Saint Gall stumbled and fell among thorns.
This he saw as a divine sign and he built his hermit's cell here. This later developed into the monastery of St.Gallen from which the city of St.Gallen grew centuries later.
This is now the location of the Valley Station for the Mühleggbahn, a cogwheel train that takes you up to St.Georgen.
