More than 80 winemakers cultivate more than 40 grape varieties in 220 hectares of vineyards around Lake Biel.
The dry, stony soils of the southeast-facing slopes above the lake and the molasse soils around Erlach and on St. Peter’s Island favour the production of fine wines – as does the lake’s moderating effect on air temperatures. As well as the classical varieties such as Chasselas and Pinot noir, the many winegrowing families also work with tireless passion to produce a host of special and rare wines. Taste the wines at the vineyard, or of course at the traditional wine festivals.
