Canton Jura

The canton Jura inspires with lots of nature – ideal for hiking, biking or horseback riding. In winter, cross-country ski trails and snowshoe trails beckon. Explore towns such as Porrentruy in the Ajoie or St-Ursanne on the Doubs. Discover dinosaur tracks, cheese dairies and the Freiberg horses.

This is the Canton of Jura

The Canton of Jura lies in the northwest of Switzerland, on the border with France. The area around the Jura mountains offers abundant nature, medieval towns such as the cantonal capital Delémont, and vibrant traditions.

Discover the Canton of Jura

The unspoilt landscapes of the Canton of Jura impress in every season. In summer you can hike, ride, or bike across the Jura heights. In winter you can set out with snowshoes, cross-country skis, or a sled. Discover traditions such as watchmaking, horse breeding, or cheese production, and explore medieval towns, castles, and fortresses. Whether in the Doubs Nature Park, the Franches-Montagnes, or the Ajoie, you will find above all one thing – peace and relaxation.

The Franches-Montagnes

The Franches-Montagnes, with the main town of Saignelégier, are the perfect excursion destination for lovers of freedom. On this plateau, you may feel as if you were in the Wild West – especially when encountering the Franches-Montagnes horses, which live in semi-freedom on the Jura forest pastures. A wonderful spot is the idyllic moor lake Etang de la Gruère. In winter you can enjoy a husky sled ride in the Franches-Montagnes.

Porrentruy, the Ajoie, and St-Ursanne

The charming little town of Porrentruy (German: Puntrut) features a pretty old town, a castle, a botanical garden, and a watchmaking trail. Combine a visit to the Jurassica Museum with an excursion into the Ajoie to see the “Tracks of the Giants” in Courtedoux or the Préhisto-Park in Réclère. Another highlight of the Canton of Jura is Saint-Ursanne: the old town, with its four-arched stone bridge across the Doubs, is simply enchanting.

Around the Canton of Jura

The Canton of Jura borders the Bernese Jura to the south, home to the Chasseral. To the southwest lies the Neuchâtel Jura: here, excursions to La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle, with their urban design shaped by the watchmaking industry, are well worthwhile. Natural spectacles await along the Doubs near Le Brenets, in the Areuse Gorge, and at the rock amphitheatre of Creux du Van.
