Visp

Visp is a “pocket-size Valais”: It is ideally situated between Zermatt, Saas-Fee, Leukerbad and the Aletsch Glacier. Discover the old town and the pedestrian zone with their many shops. Nestled at the foot of the vineyards, Visp looks almost Mediterranean, thanks to the abundant sunshine it enjoys throughout the year.

This is Visp

Visp is situated in the southwest of Switzerland, in the canton of Valais. This city in the Rhône Valley is a popular destination because of its charming old town, its wine culture and its central location in the Upper Valais.

Discover Visp

Welcome to Visp, in the heart of the Upper Valais. It is worth taking a stroll through its car-free Bahnhofstrasse with its many shopping opportunities. To the right and left, you’ll find plenty of cosy spots with cafés and restaurants. Take a detour to the Visperinsel island in the River Vispa, which flows onwards to join the River Rhône. Always in view: the vineyards and the Valais mountains with their four-thousand-metre peaks.

The old town of Visp and the farmers’ market

Strolling through the winding alleyways of Visp’s old town is a real pleasure. Discover picturesque squares and buildings with history, such as the Burgener House or the Lochmatter Tower. Marvel at churches, chapels and pergolas offering Italian flair. Every Friday, a “Pürumärt” (farmers’ market) can be found on the village square. Here, you will find Valais specialities: from rye bread to mountain honey and dried meat. The market becomes a popular meeting place in the evenings: treat yourself to a raclette and let yourself be captivated by the joie de vivre that is typical of Valais.

Europe’s highest vineyard

300 days of sunshine a year: The climate around Visp is almost Mediterranean. The striking wine terraces in the Vispertal valley allow grapes to thrive even at an altitude of 1,150 metres. Visit the village of Visperterminen, where old crafts are still practised, and learn how the famous Heida wine is produced as you follow the vineyard trail.
