Delémont
Delémont – the capital of the canton of Jura will impress you. Stroll through the old town with its historic buildings and the five beautiful figurine fountains. Enjoy the view from the Vorbourg chapel and excursions into the picturesque Jura landscape.
This is Delémont
Delémont (German: Delsberg) is located in the northwest of Switzerland, on the border with France. The capital of the
canton of Jura is a popular travel destination due to its old town and its location in the middle of the beautiful Jura landscape.
Discover Delémont
Your sightseeing starts in the “Neustad” district, which differs from the higher-lying old town at first glance. Cross the arched bridge and follow the Mühlenweg to reach historic Delémont, an inviting place for a stroll and a bit of window shopping. At the Wolfstor you turn into the Route du Vorbourg after your visit to the old town and stroll directly to another sight: the Vorbourg chapel and a castle ruin enthroned on a rocky outcrop. From here, you can enjoy wonderful views of Delémont and the valley of the Birs.
The old town of Delémont
There is a lot to discover in the old town of Delémont: walk from the Mühlentor mill gate along the old city wall to the castle with the baroque garden and the guardhouse. At the church square, marvel at the bell tower of the Saint-Marcel church and the wonderfully restored buildings. A popular photo subject is the Rue du Nord, which leads to the Wolfstor. Have you discovered all five figure fountains on your tour – for example, the Virgin Fountain or the Lion Fountain?
Hiking and biking in the Jura
Delémont, nestled in the hilly landscape of the Jura, is ideal for hiking and biking tours. Hike from Rebeuvelier to Mont Raimeux with its
gorges of Moutier and perfect panoramic views from the ridge. Or to the village of Soulce with its old farms. As a mountain bike fan, the
Jura Bike No. 3 will inspire you: You’ll start in Delémont and ride over the Rangiers Pass into the Doubs valley to the picturesque town of
Saint-Ursanne.
Around Delémont
Fancy a mix of nature and culture? On the sculpture trail near Séprais, you’ll encounter bizarre modern sculptures on meadows and dirt roads. The Auguste Quiquerez circular trail from Delémont to Soyhières shares exciting facts about the region on 30 boards. And the
Saint-Ursanne course with the iconic stone bridge across the River Doubs is simply beautiful.
