Steinen (German pronunciation: [ˈʃtaɪnən] ) is a municipality in Schwyz District in the Canton of Schwyz in Switzerland .

Steinen has an area, as of 2006, of 11.9 km2 (4.6 sq mi). Of this area, 52.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 22.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 10.5% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (14.6%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).

It is located between Rossberg and Lake Lauerz .

Steinen has a population (as of 31 December 2020) of 3,624.
