Die Wirtschaft muss brummen, heisst es. Ohne Wachstum kein Wohlstand. Doch der Planet stösst längst an seine Grenzen. Wäre da nicht weniger Wachstum der richtige Weg? Die deutsche Wirtschaft schwächelt derzeit ohnehin. Wachstumskritiker sehen darin die Chance, Wirtschaft und Umwelt endlich in Einklang zu bringen. Doch bringen solche Konzepte am Ende den Wohlstand eher in Gefahr? Die Spitzenköche Aaron und Marianus haben sich bereits gegen das Immer-mehr entschieden: Sieben Tage in der Woche schuften und viel Geld verdienen ist gut für die Volkswirtschaft, aber nicht für die eigene Gesundheit. Ihr Restaurant hat deshalb am Wochenende geschlossen. Mehr Freizeit, weniger Stress. Aber eben auch: weniger Umsatz und Einkommen. Für die zwei Hamburger ist das machbar. Die Realität von Bäckermeister Jürgen Hellmuth sieht da anders aus. Er arbeitet viel, sehr viel. Oft an sieben Tagen in der Woche. Das muss er tun, um dem Preis- und Konkurrenzdruck standzuhalten. 'An eine Vier- oder Fünftagewoche wäre hier nicht zu denken', sagt er. Ähnlich sieht es Morten Freidel: Energiewende und Klimaschutz in Deutschland kosteten viel Geld. Dafür brauche es eine prosperierende Wirtschaft, findet der Journalist. Ulrike Herrmann ist da skeptisch: Grünes Wachstum sei nicht möglich. Der Umbau der Wirtschaft verschlinge enorme Mengen an sauberer Energie. So viele Windräder könne Deutschland gar nicht aufstellen, findet die Autorin des Buchs 'Das Ende des Kapitalismus'. Man werde sich beschränken müssen. 'Degrowth' ('Schrumpfen'), um den Planeten zu retten? Aber wie sieht es dann mit unserem Wohlstand und dem Sozialstaat aus? Das Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) gilt traditionell als Gradmesser für Wachstum und Wohlstand der Industrienationen. Je höher, desto besser. In Island wurde allerdings nach der Finanzkrise eine Alternative zum klassischen BIP eingeführt: 'Wellbeing Economy' heisst das – die 'Ökonomie des Wohlergehens'. Die Professorin für Sustainability Science an der University of Iceland, Kristín Vala Ragnarsdóttir, setzt sich genau dafür ein. Gemessen wird nicht nur das, was ein Preisschild hat, sondern auch Wohlfahrt und Lebensqualität, also zum Beispiel der Zugang zu Wohnraum und Grünflächen sowie die Gleichberechtigung zwischen Männern und Frauen. Aber auch negative Positionen werden berücksichtigt – wie Umweltzerstörung und Ressourcenverbrauch. Kann das ein sinnvoller Schritt sein, Klima und Kapitalismus in Einklang zu bringen?

Schnell, leise, unauffällig und professionell: Alex Lewis ist ein Auftragskiller, der keine Spuren hinterlässt. Doch eine Demenz erschwert zunehmend seinen Job. Er will sich aus dem Geschäft zurückziehen, als sein letzter Auftrag in einen persönlichen Rachefeldzug eskaliert. – Remake eines belgischen Thrillers und erster gemeinsamer Film von Bond-Regisseur Martin Campbell und Actionstar Liam Neeson. Mexiko. Alex Lewis (Liam Neeson) hat sich in ein Krankenhaus geschlichen und tötet einen Besucher mit Blumenstrauss vor den Augen der hilflos in ihrem Krankenbett liegenden Mutter. So leise und unauffällig, wie Alex gekommen ist, entschwindet er auch wieder vor dem Eintreffen der Polizei. Er fährt zurück nach El Paso, Texas, wo er seinen Bruder Paul (Lubomir Buchvarov) im Heim aufsucht. Paul ist dement, auch bei Alex zeigen sich erste Anzeichen der Erkrankung, die er mit einem starken Medikament zu bekämpfen versucht. Ungefähr zur selben Zeit ermittelt das FBI im Fall von grenzüberschreitendem Menschenhandel. Agent Vincent Serra (Guy Pearce) ist undercover, getarnt als Freier, im Haus eines Mexikaners namens Papa Leon (Antonio Jaramillo), der seine 13-jährige Tochter Beatriz (Mia Sanchez) als Prostituierte anbietet. Beatriz entdeckt, dass Vincent verkabelt ist. Es kommt zum Eklat, in dessen Verlauf ihr Vater getötet wird. Das Mädchen wird in einem Auffanglager in der Nähe El Pasos untergebracht und später in einer spezielle Unterkunft für Kinder. Alex hat bereits den nächsten Auftrag. Er soll in El Paso zwei Menschen liquidieren, zunächst den Immobilienmakler Ellis Van Camp (Scot Williams), aus dessen Safe Alex vor der Tat einige Memorysticks entnimmt. Alex hat in der Stadt das perfekte Versteck, wenn es eng wird – die ehemalige Bäckerei seiner Eltern. Um sich Dinge merken zu können, macht er mittlerweile mit Filzstift Notizen auf seinem Arm. Alex soll auch Beatriz töten, doch als er sieht, dass das Opfer ein Kind ist, verweigert er die Ausführung des Auftrags. Kurze Zeit später wird Beatriz tot in ihrem Bett aufgefunden. Der Mord zeigt Alex' Handschrift, doch er war es nicht. Alex ist wütend, er will Rache für den Tod des Mädchens, Rache auch an den reichen Hintermännern, aus deren Reihen seine Auftraggeber kommen. Eine Spur führt zu der mächtigen Immobilienkönigin Davana Sealman (Monica Bellucci) und ihrem pädophilen Sohn Randy (Josh Taylor). Alex wendet sich telefonisch an Vincent. Dieser wurde mittlerweile aus der Sonderkommission 'Kindesmissbrauch' abgezogen, um die Mordermittlungen im Fall Van Camp zu unterstützen. Neben ihm ermitteln seine FBI-Kollegen Linda Amisted (Taj Atwal) und der Mexikaner Hugo Marquez (Harold Torres). Die Allianz mit dem FBI und der Verstoss gegen die Regeln seines Handwerks bringen Alex in Lebensgefahr. Vincent will ihn lebend festnehmen, damit Alex vor Gericht aussagen kann, während Davana Sealman ihren eigenen Killer auf Alex ansetzt, der jetzt ein Flüchtender mit nachlassendem Erinnerungsvermögen ist. 'Memory – Sein letzter Auftrag' ist eine Remake des belgischen Thrillers 'Mörder ohne Erinnerung', der bereits im ZDF-'Montagskino' zu sehen war und mittlerweile als Klassiker seines Genres gilt. Der Film von 2003 basiert auf einem Roman, der 1985 erschien. Martin Campbell sagt über den Stoff: 'Der belgische Film war hervorragend, sodass unser Drehbuchautor auf einer soliden Struktur aufbauen konnte. Wir versetzten die Geschichte nach El Paso, Texas, und Nordmexiko – Juarez ist im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes gleich auf der anderen Seites des Zauns. Es gibt Grundelemente in der Geschichte, die gleich geblieben sind, aber wir haben auch Änderungen vorgenommen. Der Schluss ist anders, und ich habe die Actionelemente betont, von denen wir mehr haben als das Original. Alles in allem ist es eine spannungsgeladene Psychostudie.' Doch Liam Neeson hat viele Talente, ist nicht nur ein Genre-Star: In 'Suspect – Unter Verdacht' spielte der irische Schauspieler 1987 eine seiner ersten Rollen in einem US-Thriller. An der Seite von Cher und Dennis Quaid verkörperte er einen taubstummen Obdachlosen, der unter Mordverdacht gerät. In 'A Monster Calls' lieh Neeson seine Stimme – 'so dicht und dunkel wie ein lange gereifter Rotwein' – einem Baummonster. Eine weitere historische Persönlichkeit verkörperte Neeson 1996 mit der Titelrolle eines IRA-Führers in 'Michael Collins'. Und ganz weich sein kann der Held auch, wie zum Beispiel in Woody Allens 'Husbands and Wives'.
