Mund (Swiss Standard German pronunciation: [mʊnd] ) is a former municipality in the district of Brig in the canton of
Valais 
in
Switzerland 
. On 1 January 2013 the former municipalities of Mund and
Birgisch 
merged into the municipality of
Naters 
.
History
Mund is first mentioned in 1259 as Munt. Until about 1800 it was normally known as Wyler and the last mention of that name was in 1850.
Geography
Before the merger, Mund had a total area of 40.2 km2 (15.5 sq mi). Of this area, 24.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 20.3% is forested.
